#SaveOurOcean

As the world looks to the Ocean Conference at the United Nations in June, the United Nations Foundation is urging you to capture and share what inspires you about the ocean.

Oceans cover three quarters of the Earth’s surface, providing us with oxygen, food, jobs, beauty, and more. In fact, over three billion people rely on oceans and their coasts for their livelihoods. Oceans are home to hundreds of thousands of species and help combat climate change by absorbing about 30% of the carbon produced by humans.

However, this vital resource is under attack. As much as 40% of our oceans are negatively affected by human behavior, including pollution, over fishing, and loss of habitat. This does not only put our marine life at risk, it puts all of us at risk. We need to change our behavior to save our oceans.

The United Nations’ Ocean Conference is bringing together global leaders to support the conservation of our oceans, seas, and marine resources. The conference will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from June 5–9. In honor of this important event, the United Nations Foundation is launching an Instagram campaign to raise awareness about the importance, the beauty, and the fragility of our oceans.

Get involved: On World Oceans Day — June 8 — show us what the ocean means to you! People around the world are encouraged to participate by sharing your underwater photos on Instagram and Twitter using #OceanCorps and #SaveOurOcean. Share your most stunning underwater photos to help highlight the majesty of our ocean, raise awareness about the challenges it faces, and discuss the opportunities to meet these challenges head-on.
