Xiaomi Kenya on Wednesday 22nd August 2018 launched its newest model in this market – Redmi 6A, which is dubbed the entry-level smartphone king. The device comes in two variants (2GB+16GB) & (2GB +32GB) which both pack a 5.45” Full Screen Display, 13MP camera, and powered by a 3000 mAh battery. The device shall be retailing exclusively on Jumia for a whole month at prices of Ksh, 9,299 for the (2GB +16 GB) variant and Kshs, 11,999 for the (2GB +32GB) variant.
The launch was held on the same day as Xiaomi Corporation released its Q2 2018 results, which showed a revenue surge of 68.3% YoY, while Xiaomi India launched a product in the new Xiaomi sub-brand (POCO – F1) which is expected to be in Kenya in September.
Xiaomi Director of MEA Mr. Ronnie Wang, in answering questions about Xiaomi’s Strategy in Kenya, explained the following:
- Kenya is an important market in Xiaomi’s African roll-out strategy and some of the key benefits that Xiaomi will bring to this market include providing Kenyans with a chance to experience innovative technology through the amazing devices offered at very honest prices. “Xiaomi’s is the number 1 supplier of technology devices in the world. We focus on our end users, hence we strive to provide technology of the very best quality at honest prices.”
- He reiterated that, all Xiaomi products including the smart home products and high end smart phones will be launched in Kenya soon, as the local demand of Xiaomi is on the rise.
In the press conference, Demart Networks (Sole – Authorized Xiaomi Agents in Kenya) CEO – Mr. Su Mou, hinted at a launch of the first Authorized Mi Store in Kenya, which will be one of its kind in the sub-Saharan Africa Market, before the end of Q4 2018.
Xiaomi aims to continue with their global strategy of cooperating with leading online platforms by partnering with Jumia Kenya, who is currently focusing on reducing the delivery turnaround time in the country.
In expounding on this, Jumia’s CCO Miss Diana Owusu who was present at the press conference, gave assurances that Kenyan consumers should expect a 24hr delivery soon, regardless of their address of delivery.
She also affirmed that convenience, quality, exclusivity, large assortment, and unbeatable prices remain Jumia’s focus in Kenya as they work directly with the brands.
